WHO WE ARE

The Baird Creek Preservation Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to facilitate the preservation and restoration of the Baird Creek Watershed in order to enhance its value as an ecological, recreational, and educational resource for generations to come.

  • saving open space

  • caring for nature

  • educating the next generation

  • connecting people to the outdoors

Our vision is to create a quality natural parkway that can be used and enjoyed by everyone. We envision hiking, biking and ski trails throughout the Parkway, a connection to the Wisconsin Ice Age Trail, providing trail access to Door and Kewaunee Counties, the opportunity to explore connections to local nature trails such a Mahon Creek, Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary and Cofrin Arboretum, the purchase of additional parkway land.

SAVING OPEN SPACE

Our organization works to save the natural spaces in and around Baird Creek. Sometimes that means buying land. Sometimes we put a permanent, legal restriction on it. Sometimes we work with other organizations and municipalities with their open spaces goals.

CARING FOR NATURE

You know that old adage “let nature take its course”? We disagree. Natural areas need help to become—and remain—places where people, plants, and wildlife can thrive. That’s why we are committed to caring for natural areas in and around Baird Creek.

EDUCATING THE NEXT GENERATION

It’s always better to have class outside. That’s why we’ve launched Education in Nature, a twist on STEM education that emphasizes exploration in nature, authentic scientific investigation, and character development.

CONNECTING PEOPLE TO THE OUTDOORS

When we spend time in nature, we’re happier and healthier. Plus, the future of conservation requires that there be passionate nature-lovers to carry on our work. That’s why we’re committed to getting people outside, providing recreational and educational opportunities.

Earth Day marks the anniversary of what many consider to be the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. According to Earth Day Network, “more than 1 billion people now participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world.”

Join your neighbors to clean and green Baird Creek! Groups and individuals of all ages and abilities are invited to join cleanup and restoration projects at creeks, parks, and neighborhood sites throughout greenway.

IMPACT

With the help of donors, members, and volunteers, we has saved more than 500 acres of land. Today, all the people in and around the Greater Green Bay Community live within miles of open space. Get in touch today and start making the difference.
